The instructions will come with the new tach.
the green is the signal wire and it goes to the negative side of the ignition coil
There are two connections, the one labeled TD connect to the TD output of ignition control box (a junction connection is on fender) and the other connect to a power source.
You will need to connect the tach to a ground and +12v source, the signal wire will have to be connected to the ground on the coil. Since the truck is fuel injected, you will likely have to find a way to wire it in with the connector on the coil. Kyrasis6 Mazdatruckin.com
In order to install a tachometer on your 1987 Monte Carlo SS, you must first find the tachometer wire by using an automotive diagnostic tool. Mount the tachometer on the dashboard. Connect green, red, black, and white wires to the distributor, ignition power, cigarette lighter, and headlights, respectively. Turn on the engine to test if the tachometer works.
To install a tachometer first determine where the tachometer will be mounted on the dash column. Then, use a flathead screwdriver to tighten the clamp around the column of the tachometer mount. Next, put the two red "trigger" wires through the firewall and connect the other ends to the coil wires of the distributor. Wrap the tachometer wire around the ignition coil bolts. The remaining two wires must be wired into the ignition of the car. Insert them into the power terminal of the fuse box which permits the tachometer to operate when the engine is on.

on the distrubutor where it says tach
Get an RPM meter (tachometer) for 1 cylinder 4 stroke engine to match with your engine. Connect ground wire from RPM to body, usually black colored wire. Connect power wire to ignition switch, make sure it is connected to 'ON' position of switch, this wire usually with yellow insulation. Connect green wire to coil negative terminal, this terminal is connected to contact point or ignition trigger system, the wire from tachometer is usually with green insulation. Start your engine and check RPM reading.
on my tach, the green wire connects to the neg on the ign coil pack
Connect the green wire to the negative side of the coil.
Assuming that by rev counter, you are referring to a tachometer (RPM meter), then you will need to go to your local auto part store and pick up an aftermarket tachometer. hooking this device up is actually very simple, but usually depends on the kind of tach you decide to purchase. for the most part, you will need to connect the tach in parallel with a good ground and the power circuit of cylinder #1's ignition coil. your best bet is to look at the directions that will come with the tachometer you choose to purchase, as they will most likely all be a little different. I have bought the tachometer however a diesel does not have a coil or disy I was hoping the Nissan Atlas or Condor which is where this motor came from had a RPM meter as standard therefor maybe something is already there I fitted the bigger gearbox as well which came with the motor
