∙ 14y agoThe Eastern cactus carries the scientific name of Opuntia humifusa. So it's one of the prickly pear cactus plants. It therefore is one of the cactus plants that grows with branches low to the ground. Its broad pads are covered with bristles and spines. They easily break off and just as easily root in the ground where they fall. On their ends grow bright yellow flowers. The Eastern cactus' green fruits ripen into red.
