Where is and how to replace the windshield wiper motor on a 1986-1995 Ford Taurus - Mercury Sable?

With the hood open, look at the right / driver's side of the firewall - at the bottom of the wiper arm.



There's a black cylinder shaped part there - it's the wiper motor.

• Disconnect the power connector
  
• Remove the driver's side wiper arm (that's what the "book" says - wonder if it's needed?)
  
• 1986-1990 models, remove the cowl screen
  1991-1995 models, lift the cowl screen on the passenger side
  
• Remove the wiper operating arm (silver bar) - pull the clip-latch / locking tab back and pull the arm away (just press it on when putting it back together)
• Take out the mounting screws/bolts from the motor & bracket assembly to remove the motor/bracket from the firewall
  

Removing the wiper arms1986-1994Insert a small screwdriver into the slot on the top of the base of the wiper arm - push down on the hidden spring lock and pull the arm up off the shaft (with the screwdriver still in the slot)

1995There is a metal tab at the base of the arm that has to be pulled / pivoted outward from the shaft - this releases the arm to be pulled/wiggled up and off.

The wiper motor is located on the top of the firewall on the driver side. It has three mounting bolts. It has a canister type of look with one or two (depending on the model) electrical connectors. The connectors snap into the motor. Can't miss it.
