part of the shift control-either at the switch or on the trans....read up everyone should have a manual for their vehicle, and the local library should have a SHOP manual available in the reference section--make copies of the right info and read up..you'll be a pro in no time ...good luck:)
ON my 1996 Dodge 2500 it is on the drivers side. On the transmission housing just above the pan gasket and around where the linkages all intertwine an connect to the housing.
on the trans
switch is located on front of tranny,look for plug with 3 wires.i just fixed mine and had to remove battery and tray to access part.good luck
