On the internet there are a lot of different descriptions of where the CRANKSHAFT position sensor is on the 2005 Dodge Stratus sedan 2.4L engine.
HERE IS WHERE I FOUND IT ON MY CAR:
it was on the front of the engine, behind/under the starter motor.
HOW CAN YOU TELL IF IT IS AT THIS LOCATION ON YOUR CAR:
- One website said that if the 8th number/letter in your car's VIN number is an X then it is located here (this was true for my car).
- To confirm: See if there is a wire (3 wires together actually) leading under the starter motor (see #2 below for a description of the starter motor's location).
THESE ARE THE STEPS I TOOK TO REPLACE IT:
1. Disconnect the positive terminal of the battery. (Turn the wheels all the way to the right, remove/pull back the black plastic cover of the front of the left wheel well, thus exposing the battery, and then unbolt the red positive terminal). You NEED to do this because you'll be working with the starter motor and you don't want to get shocked.
2. Unbolt the starter motor. You can see and access the starter motor from the top. It is situated on the front of the engine block, below the air intake. It just has two 15mm bolts on the right side holding it on. You should be able to get a ratchet or wrench to them from the top, or you may even be able to get at them better from below.
3. Lift the starter motor up out of the way. I left all of the wires connected to it, and simply tied it with twine to the plastic air intake above to keep it out of the way.
4. You should be able to clearly see and access the sensor now. It has one bolt, and the plug. *Make sure to put a little oil on the rubber seal of the new sensor before inserting it.
5. Put everything back, in reverse order.
A COUPLE OF THINGS TO NOTE:
- I believe this applies to model years 2003-2006, and to the 2.4L Chrysler Sebring sedan of the same years.
- You probably don't need to jack your car up for this repair. I had my car up on ramps, but in the end I did everything from the top.
The crankshaft sensor on a 2006 Dodge Stratus is located on the bottom of the engine near the oil filter. It tells the vehicle's computer where the crankshaft is located at any given moment. On the v6 it is on the top of the bell housing.
The crankshaft sensor on a 2005 Dodge Stratus 2. 4 Liter is located on the bottom of the engine, near the oil filter. It constantly monitors the rotation of the crankshaft and updates the vehicle's computer on its current state.
The crankshaft position sensor is located on the rear of the engine, on the driver's side just below the distributor.
2006 dodge stratus 2.4 XST, the crank sensor is located under the starter motor, must be removed the starter motor in order to change this, just now I did that job

the crank sensor goes through the top rear of the bell housing.
if it is a 2.4 "x" motor, the crankshaft position sensor should be located in the front of the motor "TUCKED" up behind the starter. it is very difficult to find, but it s there.
