Yes, that is a good place for an oil pressure guage. Try to keep the tube away from exhaust heat.
The one on the top rail behind the distributor is 1/8"NPT.
Near where the oil filter mates with the block and there is a port on the top of the block just behind the intake near the distributor.
There is a 1/8"npt port on the back rail of the block near the distributor hole.

I have a 1974 Chevy truck with the 350 V8 and the engine is in good shape. At idle the oil pressure is 35-40 PSI, at driving speed it goes up to about 50 PSI. Hope this helps.
