The location of the oil pressure switch depends on which engine the car has.
On the 2.8L V6 the oil pressure switch is on the side of the block below the exhaust manifold on the radiator side of the engine.
On the 2.5L 4 cylinder engine the oil pressure switch is located on the side of the block below the intake manifold.

I know on a1987 Suburban the oil pressure switch is located just above the oil filter. Check there. it might there on the '88 also.
If your Celebrity has the 2.5L 4 cylinder engine the oil sending unit is on the side of the block below the intake manifold. If your Celebrity has the 2.8L V6 the oil sending unit is on the lower side of the block next to the oil filter.

Hey, I also had a 1988 firebird and i had the same problem... I replaced a part called the oil pressure sensor and it worked. Hopefully this helps out.. Just dont blow ur trans.. like i did. Good luck
