We call it a horse dong, but to a partsman it would be a 4wd actuator and it is located in the front pumkin. There is a upgrade kit that can be purchased that will make it a manual engage and is generally cheaper than buying the actuator.
It is under the battery rack. Remove the battery and there are three bolts in the engine bay and one in the fender well.

There is no vacuum switch. There is an electric actuator on the front left of the front end assembly right in front of where the cv shaft goes into the differential case and an electric actuator on the rear right of the transfer case.
Check the 4X4 actuator. I found somewhere online that is goes out a lot. It costs about $114.
