The amps are in each one of the speakers. The front floor in front of the door and in the sides of the cargo bay area. Each one of the speakers have a Bose amp in the unit itself. They are the siae of a pack of cigarettes. They are also very expensive to replace. I found the cheapest ones were on Ebay and they were rebuild iwth stronger resisters in them. I put them in and they work great! Bose really saw GM coming when they sold them the rights to put these system in the Corvettes. Typically, Bose is great stuff but not in the Vettes. Stay away from junk yards amps as they are probably bad also. Good Luck!
There are 4 amps, one on each speaker, the speaker is in an enclosure with the amp built into it.
On 1984-1989 Corvette, the dash top grilles only housed speakers if the car was not fitted with Bose stereo, about 10% of production. TOM
behind the radio hidden up amongst the bundle of wires, it is very difficult to access and replace
I don't think there was a factory CD player for the 1988 corvette. The Bose was a cassette player that measures 1.5 din
the amp is in the rear passenger door if you have a Bose system
Underneathe the rear deck/dash, in the trunk. Sometimes you can find replacement units in Toronados, Grand Prixs, Luminas, Regals, and Cutlasses.
I own the 1989Cadillac 4dr Sedan Deville with Bose premium sound. Each speaker has its own individual amp that is attached to the speaker. The amps in my car went bad causing only one of my speakers to work. If you are having issues with the amp from my experience it is better to run new speakers, stereo, and wires (but be warned it is no easy task to remove the old door speakers!).
