The 2000 Mazda Miata O2 sensor bank 1 is located on the firewall in the engine compartment. The sensor can be found on the passenger side of the firewall.
The first O2 sensor is located just below the header/exhaust manifold, and can be seen just below the header's heat shield. It is most easily accessed by removing the driver's side wheel. The second O2 sensor is located after the catalytic covertor between the rear wheels at the 12 o'clock position. Because Miata engines typically run rich, it is not uncommon for the first O2 sensor to die early.
If driving around in a car that the o2 sensor is going bad can cause a few things to go wrong. The best thing you can do is get it fixed.
Look in the driver side exhaust manifold.
The O2 sensor is on the top of the exhaust pipe on the passanger side of the car near the junction of the engine and transmission.
In the exhaust system before the catalytic converter.
There are 2 of them. One on each side of the engine.
Remove the vacuum hose from the sensor. Remove the sensor retaining screws. The sensor will come off. Reverse the process to install the new sensor.

if you disconnect the o2 sensor cable in the air intake then start the engine you would see the check engine sign turned on in the gauge panel. It is on then the sensor is working if off the the sensor may have problems
In 1999-2000, Mazda designed 2 exhaust versions. The most common version is the Federal-spec Miata. This exhaust system has the typical, single catalytic converter with an O2 sensor before and after it.The front O2 sensor is before the catalytic convertor and can be seen by removing the driver's side wheel. The rear O2 sensor will be just after the catalytic converter, at the 12 o'clock position between the rear wheels. The California-spec Miata had a precatalytic converter directly installed on the exhaust manifold/header, as well as the standard catalytic converter running the length of the engine. You will find the first O2 sensor directly on the header, just above the pre-cat. It is easily seen from the driver's side of the engine bay.The second O2 sensor is found just below the pre-cat, but before the main catalytic converter. It is easily seen by removing the driver's side wheel.
no, these are unrelated to O2 codes. O2 cannot affect manifold pressure or intake air temp and of course not trans clutch.
