There is no transaxle dipstick, only drain plugs.
The AUTOMATIC transmission ( transaxle ) dipstick is on the transaxle just to the left of the battery when looking from the front of the vehicle , the manual transaxle does not have a dipstick
On a 1997 Mercury Tracer : The AUTOMATIC transmission fluid dipstick would be on the side of the transmission ( transaxle ) in the area of the brake fluid reservoir . The manual transmission ( transaxle ) does not have a dipstick
On a 2000 Mercury Cougar : No , only the automatic transaxle ( transmission ) has a dipstick
Actually , the manual transaxle does not have a dipstick ( just the automatic )
The automatic transaxle dipstick is between the battery and the engine , it is towards the rear ( the manual transaxle does not have a dipstick )
The manual transaxle ( transmission ) on your Ford Escape does not have a fluid level dipstick like the automatic would normally have ( it is probably checked at the FILL PLUG on your transmission , underneath the vehicle )
A manual transmission doesn't have a dipstick
The automatic transaxle fluid dipstick is between the engine and the battery ( the manual transaxle does not have a dipstick )
If it has an automatic transmission, it should have a dipstick on the passenger side, under the hood, near the firewall. If it has a manual transmission, no dipstick.
Manual has no dipstick. Auto is near the firewall.
Automatic: It is located above the transmission fluid filter on the front of the transmission. Manual: There is no Transmission fluid trmperature sensor for the Manual transaxle
the above answer that a manual transmission has no dipstick may not be entirely accurate. many manual transmissions (including that in my 1993 cavalier VL 5sp.) do have a dipstick for checking the manual transmission fluid. jack the car up and check the rear end of the transmission, just below the level of the CV axles. look for a plastic cap with an "L" shape to it hanging over the back end of a plateau on the transmission casing. that will be the fill cap for your manual transmission, and should have a small dipstick attached to the end of it for measuring the amount of fluid in the transaxle. it is true that some transmissions are completely sealed and will not have this plug.
