Possibly a problem with the brake light switch It is linked to the gear selector If the switch is faulty you cannot select gears Make sure the brake lights are working
It's below the gear selector lock button on the automatic transmission cosole shift
I'm assuming you mean the inhibitor switch. ie the car shouldn't start in gear for auto trans. it's located on the passsenger side of the trans. it's the plastic unit which the gear shift selector goes through.
There is a switch which is activated when the gear selector of a vehicle is moved into the 'reverse' position. This switch controls the power going to the back up lights. The switch is located somewhere adjacent to the gear selector linkage, so that it will be physically affected when the gear selector moves into the reverse position. This means that the switch location can be anywhere from the floor shifter mounting, or the steering column, to the transmission. A maintenance manual for your specific vehicle is available at most auto parts stores for under 20 dollars. This manual will give specific locations for this switch, along with instructions on how to do everything from jump starting the vehicle to rebuilding the engine, and is an essential item for any vehicle owner, I believe. geat a new gearbox mate gant change them
the button is by the gear selector lever
Underneath the front cover in front of the transmission. It is part of the gear selector switch. It switches off of the shifter drum.
No, neutral safety switch deals with the position of the selector lever (gear shift) which prevents the engine from being started when in other than neutral or park. The multifunction switch controls lights, signals, wiper etc.
That would be the OVERDRIVE selector switch.
On a 1999 Ford Expedition : Overdrive is the normally allowed position It won't shift into overdrive ( the 4th " gear " of the transmission ) until the speed is higher anyway ( such as on a highway / freeway ) If you are towing something / or driving in hilly country and the transmission is shifting back and forth between overdrive and drive , then you want to shut off the overdrive on the transmission using the switch on the end of the gear selector lever . ( the word OFF will light up near the end of the gear selector lever )
My 1987 RX7 GXL automatic is getting its' THIRD Neutral Safety Switch, also called the Inhibitor Switch. The switch allows the starter circuit to start the car if the gear selector is in P or N. If the selector is in any other gear the circuit will not open and the car will not start. Sometimes the switch can be "adjusted". Most of the time it is replaced for about $435 part and labor.
Push the button on your transmission gear selector lever that is below the thumb switch that you push to select a gear
