under the front edge of the carpet , mounted on the toe board just to the

The automatic transmission is an A4LD
If this is an automatic transmission ( no ) * starting with the 1995 model of Ford Explorer the automatic transmission was electronically controlled
According to my Haynes repair manual : For a 1994 Ford Explorer A4LD automatic transmission : ( MERCON automatic transmission fluid is used )
On a 1994 Ford Explorer : The modulator valve for the A4LD automatic transmission is on the passenger side of the transmission ( I believe it is behind a heat shield )
On a 1994 Ford Explorer : The modulator valve is on the outside of the A4LD automatic transmission , on the passenger side of the transmission , I believe it is behind a heat shield
The 1995 is a 4R55E ( electronically controlled transmission ) and the 1991 to 1994 Explorers use an A4LD automatic transmission
Dextron III
I'm assuming it would be the same as the 1994 Ford EXPLORER transfer case ( MERCON automatic transmission fluid ) I know that's what my 1995 Ford Explorer uses
About $400.00 worth!!
The 2006 Ford Explorer has a 5-speed automatic.
My Haynes repair manual shows MERCON automatic transmission fluid
