You didnt say what engine your GA has, if its the 2.2 ecotec its on the left side of the engine. Good luck looseining the bolt on it, its near impossible to get to it with any sort of wrench. I just put a jack underneath with a bar or long stick to reach the tensioner jack it up and it relives tension just enough to get that new belt on. you have to actually put ur bar on the side of the tensioner mount to get it up, having a buddy with a crowbar pull up on the tensioner from under the hood is much easier and faster. But like i said don't even try to get to that bolt
How do you change the supercharger belt tensioner in 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP?
what size engine
the timing belt tensioner is located on the lower side of the rear head just below the camshaft drives
Pontiac Grand Prix does not have a timing belt. It has a timing chain and it is replaced when it breaks.
It has a timing chain.
The Pontiac Grand Prix has a Timing Chain with a spring loaded tensioner. The tensioner is know to wear, crack and then break. The timing chain and tensioner should be replaced at 100,000 miles. This is a pretty big job that can be done with the motor in the car. $$$ Ray
It does not have a timing belt, it has a timing chain that requires no maintenance.
It provides the proper tension on the serpentine belt so as it is not too tight or too loose.
The belt tension should adjust automatically. There's a thing called a belt tensioner that has a strong spring in it (you can't see the spring) that keeps pressure applied to the belt. This belt tensioner is what makes the serpentine belt so hard to remove. Many times the tensioner is in a difficult place access.
alternator on a 2000 Pontiac runs off a serpentine belt if its loose then chances are ur serpentine belt is worn or stretched or your tensioner pulley is bad or the tensioner itself..alternator bolts stable does not move like the old setup.
it has a manual tensioner
call the Pontiac delearship or sometimes find them in the owner manuals
