The brake fluid is stored in the Master Cylinder reservoir. It is located on the driver's side, mounted on the firewall, in front of the power-brake booster. Look for a large round object about 8" in diameter and you will see the master cylinder with brake lines running from it. On top of the master cylinder is the reservoir. On a 1995 Ford Taurus : The brake fluid reservoir would be near the firewall , on the drivers side of the engine compartment ( it should be a white / semi clear plastic with a " max " marking on the side

On a 2001 Ford Taurus : You add brake fluid to the brake fluid reservoir , located in the engine compartment , on the drivers side of the engine compartment near the firewall * the firewall is the metal wall that divides the engine compartment from the passenger compartment *
If you mean the red " BRAKE " light in your dash is on , that means that the brake fluid level in the brake master cylinder located in your engine compartment ( on a Ford Taurus ) is LOW ( or that the parking brake is on )

GO TO YOUR BRAKE FLUID CONTAINER ON YOUR ENGINE, BUY SOME DOT 3 BRAKE FLUID AT AUTO ZONE & FILL IT UP TO WHERE IT SAYS "FULL" or "Max". The Owners Manual has illustrations and specifics on how to check and add brake fluid. See "Related Questions" below
