Found it myself on the firewall. Little, bitty thing, mine was hidden by a car alarm siren.

Clutch master cylinder, usually located near the brake master cylinder. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I chose the ( 1996 and 2003 ) Ford Escort owners manuals to look at and they show that the brake master cylinder is also used for the hydraulic clutch
The brake fluid reservoir is on top of the master cylinder. Right in front of the driver, mounted to the firewall.
The brake fluid on a 2003 Avalanche goes into the fluid reservoir. The reservoir should be bolted onto the drivers side of the firewall.
There are no adjustments on a HYDRAULIC CLUTCH SYSTEM. The clutch disc is ether worn out, or the clutch slave cylinder is going bad. Is the clutch master cylinder full of fluid ?? If not there is a leak in the system, and you are not depressing the throw out bearing far enough. and that makes it hard to shift.
The brake fluid reservoir is under the hood on the driver side. The fluid is added to the master cylinder with the yellow cap back near the wiper cowl.

Find the clutch fluid reservoir and take its cap off. Look under the dashboard to locate the stop-nut. Loosen the nut and set the pedal where you want it to be. Tighten the stop-nut and test the clutch pedal.
