There is 2 coolant sensors. 1 is for the temperature gauge and the other is for the computer to tell it what fuel mixture is needed.
I have a 1998 Pontiac Grand AM GT that coolant sensor went bad. So how do you change it with out breaking the coolant
where is the coolant temperature sensor locate
On the 3.8 V6 it is below the throttle body on the front of the engine. You do not have to drain the radiator, just remove and replace. Then top off the radiator coolant.
remove the front passenger wheel, remove the crank pulley, remove the crank sensor. you may need a GM special tool to remove certain bolts
It should be on the tank of the rad just below the fill neck- remove the wiring harness and there is a clip that holds the sensor to the tank- pull it off with a sideways motion and then pull the low coolant sensor straight out.
It is in the passenger side coolant tank on the radiator. If the light is on and the coolant is at the proper level then the sensor is defective. To replace it you will have to drain the radiator. Disconnect the wire and remove the clip and remove the sensor.
The coolant sensor is located approx. 1/2 way down the radiator on the passenger side of the vehicle. Disconnect the electrical connector, Remove the spring clip, pull out the sensor, replace with new sensor, replace the spring clip, connect electrical connector.
