The temperature sensing unit is located on the water outlet. The water outlet is the housing that contains the thermostat and 2 engine temperature sensors.
The sending unit for the fan is the first sensor closest to the front of the car.
The sensor towards the rear of the housing operates the engine temperature gauge. It has only 1 small connector wheras the sendiing unit for the fan has a larger connector with 2 wires instead of 1.
There is an engine temperature sensor that operates the cooling fan.

The cooling fan will run whenever the AC or Defroster is on. Beyond that, it will run whenever the sensor indicates that the temperature is above a set-point.
The temperature sensor for your cooling fan may need to be changed. The temperature sensor wiring may need to be cleaned or replaced.
in the thermostat housing on the left side of the engine
were is the cooling fan sensor located on a Chevy malabu 2002 3.1L
near the thermostat housing
try under air intake hose on to the right of center of engine top, there are 2 similar relays/sensors. one is relay sensor other is relay.
Engine temp sensor sends signal to ECM ECM sends a signal to the CCRM (sealed box of relays under the air filter housing) CCRM is wired to the Fan. Hi and lo relays are inside box. Check fuses for ECM and Cooling Fan too. Google "CCRM" and "Escort" a few topics will pop up.
Check your connection with the fan on/off sensor. Should be located somewhere on the thermostat housing. Sometimes if there is no signal, the fan will stay on (failsafe). Could also be the sensor
Check the cooling fan relay and the control sensor. Check the fuse as well and if these are all good, check the fan motor.
To check the fan sensor on a 98 escort with the key on disconnect the electrical connector to the temperature sesnor. If the fan come on the sensor is all right.
