For the record, I had #4 misfire on 1996 XE 2WD and with a perfectly running engine. Nissan told me to clean EGR ports. The Alldata troubleshooting said also to check EGR system operation. I found the metal tube from EGR valve to BPT was clogged especially at the metered opening at valve end. All vacuum tubes looked good EXCEPT the small hose length from the metal tube connecting to the BPT. It was wasted. Hot exhaust nearly melted it away. Niether fixed the MIL light until I cleaned the ports and replaced EGR. There are 4 hex key plugs located between throttle body and head. There's 4 which when opened show a lot of carbon buildup. You should see a 1/4 inch hole going into intake manifold if they are clean. There are 2 larger plugs on the sides, can't reach forward one without pulling radiator hose. I had only #4 port CLEAN out of the four! I am almost certain the ports, not the EGR valve was the culprit. Now their all open and MIL is out for another day :-)
