Where is the fuel filter located on a 2001 Mazda 626?

The fuel filter is located on the driver's side of the engine compartment (right side if you are facing the back of the car) just in front of the master cylinder which is mounted on the firewall and behind the air filter housing. It is located below another emissions device that is mounted on a bracket. You will have to remove this bracket in order to get your hands down to the fuel filter bracket. You should have the following tools to do this job: a flathead screwdriver, 8mm and 10mm sockets, a pair of pliers (linemans pliers will work, but you should have a pair of hose clamp pliers) and some tape or a small plug to cap the fuel lines while you have the fuel filter disconnected (this will prevent leaking fuel into the engine compartment). The proper FRAM replacement filter for the 2001 Mazda 626 (2.0L engine) is the G7428. According to an auto shop you should allot about 1 hour to do this job. If you are really good, you can do it in about 20-30 minutes. Doing it yourself will save about $80 in labor charges!
