My girlfriends car does not have one, unless there is one built into the fuel pump in the tank. I would suggest just putting an inline filter on a fuel line under the hood, but be advised those hoses have fuel under pressure, usually there is a procedure to remove the pressure, but I dont have a manual handy to check at the moment (my 90 escort had an inline that you had to release the pressure before changing the filter).
they use a carbon cannister(big black cylinder on bulk head above gearbox).however the procedure for easing the fuel pressure is to remove the fuel pump fuse and starting car til it runs dry.
But Be Careful!
Fuel systems with today's fuel injection systems are constantly under pressure when the car is running, so if you do install an inline fuel filter, ensure that it will work with a pressurized fuel system.
This was much easier on the older carburated engines, because their fuel systems did not have the high pressure of today's vehicles.
