The fuel filter on a 97 lx is on the firewall underneath the brake master cylinder and reservoir. It is on the drivers side of the firewall. It takes special clips to disconnect the fuel lines. They can be had at any parts house for a couple of dollars. Make sure you relieive the pressure in the fuel lines before you take them off. How you do this is to locate the Inertial cutoff valve in the lefthand kick panel in the passenger compartment. Just pry the button UP and let the engine run until it dies. Then the pressure will have been relieved. Once your done push the button down on the cutoff valve to restore pressure to the fuel system.

There is no trunk release for a 97 Escort LX. The key or the remote are the only ways to open it. On my 95 lx,its on the lower left drivers seat floor board.
