I just recently changed my fuel filter by myself in about 20 minutes. The filter is located right in front of the gas tank under the driver's side doors. First clamp a vise grip tight enough to pinch the lines on both sides of the filter. Then use a pliers to compress the hose clamps then slide the clamps about 3 inches away from filter. If your replacing the factory filter it will take a little effort to break it loose. Pull the rubber lines off the old filter - gas will leak from the filter. Put in new filter then move the clamps back onto the filter, then remove your vise grips. Start your Rodeo up and let it run for a minute then check for leaks. Do not over tighten the vise grips on the fuel lines cause you may cut the line.
On vehicles without fuel injection it will be by the motor mounts, with it in the fuel tank.

A 1999 Isuzu Rodeo that starts and then dies is not getting enough fuel, or the fuel mixture is off. It could be a clogged fuel line, dirty fuel filter or the fuel pump. It will need to be serviced.

It is located under the timing belt cover.
In recent experience, I have learned that a 1992 rodeo does not have a cut off switch and that on most the fuel pump is in the tank!
Inside the fuel tank, follow the two wires from the connector near rear passenger side wheel well to the connection on the top of the fuel pump.
Fuel pump is inside tank. Drop fuel tank and replace through cover and re-install. Make sure you replace fuel filter at the same time.

The fuel sending unit is part of the fuel pump in the gas tank and both must be replaced to fix the problem. The fuel pump is part of the 100,000 mile warranty.
