On a 1996 Ford Explorer, in the fuse panel on the drivers side, there is a 10 amp fuse for the left headlamp in location # 4 a 10 amp fuse for the right headlamp in location # 8 a 15 amp fuse for high beam lamps in location # 33 also a shared 30 amp relay for the headlamps/battery saver in the power distribution box in the engine compartment. Sorry, I could not find an owners manual for the 2 door sport model, so I'm not sure if it is the same as the 4 door.
you go in from the backside of the headlight assembly (under hood) it come out similar to the way we used to change tail light bulbs

The headlight relay on a 1996 Ford Thunderbird is in the fuse box on the driver's side of the dash. The fuse box can be accessed by opening the driver's door and removing the small door on the side of the dash. The headlight relay is the same one as for the battery.
