I have a 98 Cadillac deville and it was not turning over. All the lights in the dash came on and it read, theft system problems car may not restart. And it didn't, I checked the ground wire from the battery and it started and has been every since. Hope this works for you as well.
Check your battery connections, engine ground wire, and starter connections.
check ground wire on front of engine behind starter.
# Disconnect negative battery cable (8mm) # Follow first wire and disconnect at alternator bracket (15mm) # Follow second wire and disconnect at radiator support (13mm) # Installation is reverse of removal
Jump the starter solenoid Take jumper wire from Battery + to trigger wire to starter (mounted on top of starter)
The Chassis is the ground.
The wiring colors for a 1997 Cadillac Deville radio with an amplifier are easy to identify. The radio battery constant 12v+ wire is orange, the radio accessory switched 12v+ wire is yellow, the radio ground wire is black, the radio illumination wire is gray, the dimmer wire is brown, and the antenna trigger wire is pink. For the front speakers, the left front speaker wire (+) is tan, the left front speaker wire (-) is gray, the right front speaker wire (+) is light green, and the right front speaker wire (-) is dark green. For the rear speakers, the left rear speaker wire (+) is brown, the left rear speaker wire (-) is yellow, the right rear speaker wire (+) is dark blue, and the right rear speaker wire (-) is light blue.
The one you are looking for most of the time is directly in front of the engine. It goes from alternator to the body via a 6 inch or so wire, that connects to body in front of and near the fuse box. This is the one that usually goes bad, due mainly to vibrations or a bad motor mount(s). Fix the mounts if you change this ground wire or it will break again.
You would have to pop the hood of the car. If the handle is broken to the hood, you must locate the piece of the wire that it was connected to and pull on it with a pair of pliers.
