Where is the heater core located on a 1987 Chevy Caprice Classic?

The heater core is located up against the firewall inside the passenger compartment behind the glove compartment. I changed on in my 1985 Caprice and it is a pain in the butt job because of how you have to position yourself to work up under the passenger side dash. I there is a plastic cover that surrounds the heater core, the fan motor and the A/C evaporator. To get the cover off I used nut drivers and a 3/8" ratchet with a 6" extension. I forget the size but I seem to remember 7mm? First, with a small flashlight, look under the dash and locate the cover and identify all the screws. There is also some kind of cross brace that is attached. Take a couple digital pictures of how it looks so you can check back if you need to. Remove all the screws and examine each one as you remove it as you need to know where they go back in. I use a tupperware contain to keep them in. If you look at them twice it will be easy. The easiest way to get the brace off is to remove the screws and pull it out. One way worked easier than the other but I have forgotten. Pull the cover off. Remember that it is kind of sealed on there but just work it and it will come off. Once you have the cover off you will see the heater core right there bigger'n'Dallas. A dealer charges around $350 to do this and a heater core costs around $35 last time I checked. vbdenny
