Your heater is definitely clogged. I just went thru the procedure and replaced my thermostat, believing that it was defective and running open and thus cooler. The thermostat was fine. Find the two hoses that run from the firewall on the drivers side. One of the hoses will run from the firewall to a connection just off the water pump. This is the hose you want. The other hose runs from the firewall to a connection just in front of the throttlebody. Ignore this hose. Back to the hose connecting directly onto the water pump. cut this hose off as close to the water pump as you can, now stick a garden hose nozzle right into the hose and turn on the water pressure high. The water will make a round trip thru the hose, to the heater element, back thru the hose connecting just in front of the throttle body and then out thru the open connection at the water pump. Look for a dark gush of crap out from the water pump side, then alternate the garden hose thru each opening and do this for five minutes. Then hook up your hose again and refill with coolant. You will notice and immediate improvement in your heater.
