The heater core is located inside the heating unit under the dash. It can be removed and replaced(or the mouse nest removed) by a backyard mechanic but be patient and take your time. you have to basically move the entire dash out of the way to access the heating unit. Also, try not to damage the coolant hoses leading to it, because i was not able to find replacements for them.
