Vacuum leak. Could also be the idle air control valve. Does it miss on acceleration or at idle? If on accel I would be looking at the plugs and wires
Check for oil leak(s) underneath the car...this might be messing up your electrical connections. According to my 1984-1994 Tempo/Topaz Repair Manual. It is the Exhaust Gas Recircuation (EGR)valve. A Malfunctioning EGR valve can cause 1 or more of the folloming syptoms: 1) Detonation, 2) rough idle or stalls on deceleration. 3) Hesitation or surge. 4)Abnromally low power at wide open throttle. My 94 Topaz has the same porblem, expect I replaced my EGR valve and it still acts up. So I'm check ing the other parts of that system. The EGR Transducer, and the EGR Vacuum Regulator (EVR). Have your fuel injectors cleaned. About $100 at a garage. When they get hot they gum up because of deposits. Check the distributor, that was the problem with mine, I needed a new one
I had the exact same problem, with the same model car. You need to replace the idol air controller valve. I bought one at the local repair shop for 80$. It should not take more than a few minutes to fix. It is located on the backside of the intake manifold. It is a black box near the center, and in the back. It has an electical connection that clips on the side of the box. There will be two bolts that will require an 8mm wrench or socket to take off. This is important....the replacement part(if new from the part store) will have to be put on the Opposite of the one you take off. In other words, on the topaz model, you will be putting the new part on upside down.
Where is the fuel idle control valve for a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire

Idle air control valve diagram
The idle air control valve on a Saturn SC1 is found on the intake manifold. This valve controls how much air enters and engine and allows how high the motor can idle.
The idle air control valve on a 2002 Pontiac Bonneville is located on the intake manifold. This valve allows direct adjustment to the engines idle system.
I suggest you contact your local Saturn dealership/service department. Saturns have a history of having problems with idle so, be sure you need the new idle control valve prior to purchase.
The 2002 Dodge idle air control valve is located on the outside of the air cleaner housing. The idle air control valve can be found on the left-hand side of the housing.
Two of the most common causes are throttle position sensor and idle control valve problems.
my 2002 volvo s-40 is miss firing and it is alleged that the fault is from the idle air control valve. how can i clean the valve?
The idle control valve is mounted on the side of the throttle body. Carbon building up in the valve will cause the engine not to run properly.

The 99-2002 camaro 3.8 V6 doesn't have Idle air control valve. It is drive by wire control. Many of the parts dealers have the wrong data that 95-02 3.8 camaro have the same Idle air control valve location, and sell the wrong part.
