There is an unknown number of Great White Sharks in the northeast. This is due to them breeding and also being a protected species. It is not easy to catch them but when researchers do catch them they tag them.
Some of the largest include the groupers, and the giant hump head wrasse. Sharks are also fish, so really the largest fish on the reef are sharks, but most are not permanantly on the reef.
The great hammerhead, largest of the group, can be up to 16 feet long.

The great whales are. (Blues, Finbacks, Sperm, Greys) There are smaller whales - Minkes, for example - and a great white might be as big or bigger that one of them. Incidentally, great whites are NOT the biggest sharks. Basking sharks and the appropriately named whale sharks are bigger still.
