In addition to being filmed at 20th Century Fox Studios in Los Angeles, California, The Sound of Music was also filmed on location in Salzburg, Austria; Salzkammergut, Austria; and Bavaria, Germany. Salzburg was used for much of the city shots, including Mirabel Gardens during the Do-Re-Mi scene. Schloss Leopoldskron, Salzburg was used for the lakeside scenes of the Von Trapp's family home.

The movie 'The Sound of Music' was shot on location in Austria and Germany; studio filming was done at 20th Century Fox Studios in Los Angeles, California.

The areas in Austria include: Salzburg (the city scenes when Maria and the children were at the market and the gardens, the convent, the music festival, lakeside scenes from the Von Trapp house), Mondsee and Salzkammergut. German Bavario was depicted in some of the arial Photography at the start of the film.
