I'll ASSUME a manual transmission; Lower right side of 5 spd. trans extension housing. 2 wire connector & a 10mm head bolt holding in the O-ring sealed sensor. BTW, a small amount of gear oil will come out w/ sensor.
Computer
Here is the location of the vss. http://picasaweb.google.com/cefiro.calsonic/P0720VSS# Thanks to the guys at, http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generation-maxima-2000-2003/563476-tranny-missing-p0720-help-please.html You rock...
NO....
VSS ( Vehical Speed Sensor ) located on your transmission
It's on the top back corner of the transmission.
transfercase right side tail
on 94 and earlier models it is located behind the glove box or close to the ECM.
The VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) is located on the transmission. If the speedometer is not working, it is rarely the VSS causing the problem. I would first check fuses and the ECU
The VSS is for 1997 and older Rangers. 1998 and newer Rangers are not equipped with a VSS type system. The vehicle speed information comes from the antilock brake system rear wheel speed sensor according to the Haynes repair manual.
raise the vehicle, disconnect the electrcal connection from the vss. remove the mounting bolt and withdraw the vss from the transaxle case. replace sensor "O" ring.
Goes from the VSS to the ECM. Find the VSS, and you can trace it from there.
The VSS vehicle speed sensor on top of the transmission is faulty.
