In the cargo area of your Ford Explorer , on the drivers side , there is a removable plastic panel that covers the rear windshield washer fluid container , your wheel jack etc. , the lug wrench is held in place by some clips on the back of the removable plastic panel
At the rear of the vehicle, in the cargo compartment, there should be a panel on the left side. Remove that, and the jack and lug wrench will be in there.
On a regular cab Ford Ranger, the Jack and lug wrench are behind the passenger seat bolted to the floor.
On a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport : The wheel jack is in the cargo area , on the drivers side , behind a removable plastic panel ( the lug nut wrench is also stored there )

It's supposed to be under the carpeted lid in the cargo area behind the back seat , and the lug wrench etc. is in a bag attached to the jack
The factory amp is mounted in the cargo compartment, inside the rear hatch on the immediate left. It is directly across from the jack and lug wrench compartment.
