if you have a 2012 sportage your oil changes need to be done by Kia, if there not free, it will affect your warranty doing them yourself. I am all for doing my own oil changes but if you really have a 2012 you can void your warranty if you do it your self.
The above answer is simply not true. You will NOT void your warranty by changing your own oil/filter. U.S. Federal Law prohibits "captive" maintenance practices where the owner must return the car to the dealer to have maintenance services done. As long as you keep up with the vehicle maintenance in accordance with the manufactures recommendations and directions, you can have the work done anywhere you want and you can do it yourself. It is your choice. You should however keep good records and all receipts where you bought the oil/filter to prove you did the maintenance. Make sure you use the exact weigh and oil the manufacture specifies and a quality filter.
The oil filter on the Kia Sportage is found on the driver's side of the engine. The oil filter should be replaced during an oil change.
2000 sportage it is right in front of the oil filter toward the front of the engine.
Easy way is to remove the battery and take out the oil filter from the top.
