It is located on the lower front right side of the engine. Follow the oil cooling lines to the engine. undo the three Allen headed screws holding the cover on and you will find it under it. It is not a high micron filter rather a debry filter. That is why it is really important to chonge the oil atleast anualy. It will take you about 3.5 quarts to do a oil change. Be sure to use a motorcycle oil like Yamalube and not automotive oil. The reasion for this is that the wet clutches (they are submerged in the engine oil) will pematuraly wear out and you slip.
The oil capacity for the Yamaha Big Bear 400 is 3.2 quarts. It is recommended you use 10w30 oil in the Big Bear.
