if it's a 87-93 there is none. overdive is indicated by the D with the circle around it on the gear indicater. when normal driving use this gear. Answer i have a 2001 and its on the shifter
On a 1998 Ford Taurus ; On the column shift the overdrive button is on the end of the gear shift lever On the console shift the overdrive button is on the drivers side of the gear selector lever below the button you have to press to shift out of PARK
Pressing it will disable the overdrive.
Select the " D " with the circle around it for overdrive Select the " D " if you only want to use the first ( 3 ) gears and no overdrive
there is a button on the end of th gear shift that you simply push in..
Your overdrive on / off button is on the end of your gear selector lever ( P R N etc. )

Overdrive is the normally allowed position , but it won't shift into overdrive until the speed is faster such as on the highway / freeway
The button is on the side of the shifter normally on the drivers side .
I believe that was an ( A4LD ) automatic transmission with the 4 cylinder engine on a 1989 Ford Mustang
