inside of transmission
You can identify whether or not your 1997 Ford Explorer has an overdrive drum sensor by looking at the identification tag on the transmission. The identification tag will list the overdrive drum sensor.
The overdrive will not engage on a 97 Mitsubishi Gallant if the switch has been turned off or the transmission is defective. Often time the bands will become worn and prevent it from shifting into certain gears.
its your transmission. try flushing it and using lucas...if that doesnt work you need a new transmission... :(
On a 97 528i the speed sensor is located on the transmission tail shaft housing at the top.
The output speed sensor is on the rear part of the trans, on the driver side.
Its mounted on transmission.

The only "sensors" on the transmission are the speed sensor at the top in back, and the range switch on the front.
There is only the speed sensor and the range switch.
Replace it.......its one bolt on the side of the transmission.....
Means there is something wrong with your transmission. Need to hook up to a computer & get the code normally but can be external damage also. My 97 F150 did that when the transmission mount broke.
You have to first remove the transmission oil pan and the valve body. The Range sensor is relatively easy after that.
