Fords are known for burning up their Power Steering pumps. It will have a cap, and when you pull it off, there will be a short little dipstick. The fluid will be bright red, same as a the trans fluid.

On my '97 4.0 liter, it's a pulley below the power steering pump, to the right of the water pump as you look into the engine compartment. On my 92 2.5 L the power steering pump position is adjustable to tension the belt.

With the engine off, remove the power steering reservoir cap, and read the fluid level.
