The "Derby" is the large dome-shaped cover on the primary. The primary is on the left side of the engine. Be VERY careful when removing the derby fasteners. The screws on the derby are very prone to stripping. Insure that any tool is inserted all the way to the bottom of the slot before placing any force on the fastener.

Lift the bike on a stand that maintains a vertical stance (not resting on the kickstand). Remove the six bolts that hold on the derby cover to the primary case, found on the left hand side of the motorcycle. Be sure to have a new gasket ready on hand. Remove the derby cover making sure that the clutch spring does not fall off. Check the fluid level. A properly filled case will have just enough oil to cover the bottom teeth of the clutch.
