The starter is right in front on the SL2.
Most likely the selonoid on the starter motor needs replacing

I changed out mine because it finally failed after about 190,000 miles I have a 1992 sl2,It was very easy to do, 2 bolts to remove,and a couple holding the wiring .pfs

You have to remove that starter through the top of the engine compartment PLEASE BE PATIENT It's not that hard.... but you get dirty because it's in a hard to reach spot. You will neeed to have a range of extentions with the wobble feature or a universal joint.
