Standing in front of the car it should be mounted on the transmission and engine on the right hand side. Just look down between the engine and radiator. It mounts where the engine joins the transmission.

The diesel turbo can only fit on a Volvo 850 with a little fabrication.

Not easily. The 940 engine is a 4 cylinder rear wheel drive that is oriented front to back. The 850 engine is a transverse 5 cylinder front wheel drive. The transmission/transaxle in the two are very different.
