"First Remove the Tension bolt from the alternator and remove." "Next take a hammer and gently tap the alternator down" "Do the same with the Tension Mount" "After realigning the alternator and the Tension mount replace the bolt" "BE CAREFUL NOT TOO TIGHT ON THE BELT OR YOU WILL RUIN THE BEARINGS" "GOOD LUCK"
Loosen the alternator bolt and lean it forward to relief the tension there. Find the lock bolt on the front end of the assembly (just follow the belts) and you need to unscrew the locking bolt and then unscrew the tensioniner....it's near impossible to explain this without pictures.
# Disconnect negative battery cable # Pull straight out and disconnect the push on type connectors for both the stator and field terminals # Loosen the alternator adjustment and pivot bolts pivot the alternator up to release tension and detach the drivebelt # Remove the ajustment and pivot bolts and remove the alternator from the engine
disconnect battery terminals. remove upper radiator hose and manifold on block, debuckle the radiator to allow wiggle. disconnect electrical wiring from alternator. release alternator tension on belt, and remove tensioning device. remove bolt holding alternator to block. twist and wiggle alternator up between abs mess, radiator and motor.
Remove the positive cable from the battery post. Remove the cables from the alternator. Remove the alternator wiring harness. Remove the belt by loosening the tensioner pulley. Remove the alternator retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new alternator.
I have a Mazda 929 (1993) I had the same problem last year...I got a new alternator, and some new wires and spark plugs. Haven't had a problem with it since.
