Should be in a removable housing at the engine end of the upper radiator hose Drain about 1 gallon of coolant from the radiator
Remove this housing
Make note how thermostat is installed in housing
Clean both surfaces
Replace thermostat and gasket
Re-install housing
Re-fill coolant slowly to prevent an air lock
Start engine and look for leaks
Run engine to normal operating temperature with heater on
Re-check coolant level
Thermostat may be stuck open. Replace the thermostat and flush and replace the coolant with a 50/50 mix of anti-freeze and distilled water.
Thermostat ($10-50) + one hour labor (depends on shop). In some case you might have to replace coolant + 1-2 gallons.
Hourly rate + cost of parts + "shop supplies". $50 minimum.
remove thermostat housing two bolts and replace with new and seal...replace fluid with 50/50 antifreeze and bleed system including heater. bleed screws pretty obvious on water hoses ie heater in and out of bulkhead, blow in header tank with bleeds open, reseal and should be ok
You don't fix it you replace it. Drain the radiator, replace the hose, and the thermostat, flush the system, install a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and water, bleed the system.
Drain the radiator into a container. Remove the upper radiator hose at the engine end. there is 2 bolts in the housing that hold the thermostat. Remove them and the thermostat and clean both surfaces. Install the new thermostat and housing. Install the upper hose and top off the radiator with a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and water.
Thermostat stuck open or heater core clogged. Replace the thermostat, and flush the cooling system. Install a fresh supply of a 50/50 mixture of anti-freeze and distilled water. Bleed air from the system.
The heater core has no overflow hose. Cooling system is a closed loop system and the only overflow hose is the one going from the radiator cap to the reservoir. A thermostat that is stuck closed will cause the engine to overheat. Drain and flush the radiator, replace the thermostat, install a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and distilled water, bleed air from the system. You may also need to replace the radiator cap. Be sure and replace these parts with OEM parts. The heater core has no overflow hose. follow the topradiator line to the block there you will find two blots (10mm) remove them and the thermostat is right there. once you remove the old one clean the block (razor blade works the best.) then put back in the order you removed everything and your set. you well also need about 2 jugs of coolant (50/50 mix) because this much well come out as you are removing the thermostat. it is also easier if you remove the top fan guard as well. good luck.
Water pump has failed. Replace the water pump, hose, belt, thermostat, and flush the cooling system. Replace the coolant with a 50/50 mix of anti-freeze and distilled water. assuming you have water in the radiator and it is not frozen and the electric fans are coming on - then you have a stuck thermostat. Replace it. Drain your coolant and flush the system, replace the thermostat and fill with 50/50 coolant and water. Also check the drained coolant for signs of contaminates like gas or oil, you may need a head gasket.
