is usually where the top hose from your radiator is conected to on your engine. http://www.redpepperracing.com has the best answers for '84-87 civics. the water pump thermostat is housed behind, and slightly lower then, the distributor, fallow the main lower hose from the radiator back to the engine block, there are two or three studs that hold a small houseing on over the thermostat, between it, and that large radiator hose, used a 12mm socket to removed them, and of course alwas replace the gaskat.
