Where is the thermostat located on a 1990 Toyota Corolla?

look around in the front of the car, locate the radiator. after that it has to be where the antifreeze goes so its probably located in one of the hoses coming out of it. It's right under ignition coil( distributor) where the spark plugs wire connect it to. I just changed the Thermostat on my Corolla today. It is located at the engine side (top) of the bottom radiator hose on the right side of the engine as you are looking at it. You will see a plastic distributor box. You do not need to remoce this you can get around it. It appears that you can't at first but I did with a 3/8 ratchet and an inch and half extention. There is only 2 bolts holding to the housing. Remove the 2 bolts and pry the front of the housing and the hose to the right. The Thermostat is just inside this piece. There is also a rubber O ring around the outside of the Thermostat that will need to be replaced as well. Then just assemble the 2 pieces and replace the Thermostat and then the housing and re-bolt with the 2 bolt you removed. it looks harder then it is to do. this person above is correct and the nuts are 10mm and i would recommend to remove the air filter box to give yourself much more room. remove the top four clips, they stay with top of air filter box, loosen the hose clamp on flexible hose, be careful there is a sensor on side of top. then remove air filter and make sure you can see light through the filter so you know it's good while you're at it. then there are three, 12mm bolts holding bottom of air box to fenderwell. do reverse to install air box. good luck
