their is no thermostat in a 1998 VW Jetta 2.0 , i know, i already went to the dealer.... There is a thermostat, the dealer is wrong. There is a housing at the end of the bottom radiator hose opposite the radiator. To access this, you must remove the power steering pump and its bracket. Then the housing, attached to the lower radiator hose is bolted to the lower part of the front of the engine, contains the thermostat. It is a 195 degree from the factory. A Duralast (pn 15379)that has a built-in bleeder, is a good one to pick up for about $15 at most parts houses.

The 1997 VW Jetta thermostat is located inside of the thermostat housing. Remove the thermostat housing retaining bolts. Remove the water supply hose. Reverse the process to install the new thermostat.
where is the fuse for the airconditioning for 2000 jetta vw located
I just had the thermostat housing replaced on my 99 Jetta VR6. It's on the right (driver's) side of the engine block. The battery and battery tray should be removed to get access to the thermostat.
where is the computer othe vw jetta
According to the Haynes manual, the thermostat is located by follwing the lower radiator hase from the radiator back to the engine. The housing for the thermostat is bolted on the side of the engine block facing the radiator.
It's where the rad hoses go onto the front of the block. It has a sensor in it, is oval shaped and has 2 bolts in it.
