Thermostat is located on the top of the engine where the upper radiater hose enters. Not too tough, as long as the engine is cool, drain fluid with valve at bottom of radiator, then remove and replace. Make sure you install it right side up! Refill, and rock n roll!!
To change the thermostat on a 1987 Chevy van, drain the radiator and locate the thermostat under the upper host assembly. Remove the bolts holding the thermostat in and replace it.
Remove the water supply hose from your 1987 Chevy Astro thermostat housing. Remove the thermostat housing retaining bolts. Remove the old thermostat and drive in the new thermostat.

the thermostat is located in behind the housing of the top radiator hose that goes to the engine. Right side facing engine. 1 bolt needs to be removed then horseshoe shaped retainer. Pull out housing . recommended to change o-ring on housing also.
locate the top radiator hose and follow it to the motor, unbolt the housing it is connected to and remove the old thermostat replace it and put it back together
