It's under the throttle body, very close to the exhaust pipe, which you do not need to remove. A 13 mm wrench will be able to access the rear bolt head, but it's got very little swing. Use a ratcheting wrench if available. The front bolt should be accessible with a 13 mm socket. But first you'll have to loosen a mount for the coolant rail that travels along top of the exhaust, so that you are able to stick the socket between the rail and the exhaust. When those bolts are out, you should be able to pull the thermostat housing away (I left the housing bleeder line that comes out the top of the housing on) and pull out and replace the thermostat. The new one should come with a gasket surface, so there is no need for any sealer. I don't have a torque spec for the bolts, but the housing is aluminum, so go easy, but it needs to be sealed well; maybe try for about 15 or so foot pounds. If you are familiar with torqueing, then use your own judgement.
If it's an automatic you will have to remove the exhaust manifold because the thermostat is located on the backside of the engine on the driver's side under the exhaust manifold.
Follow the top radiator hose back to the engine. The thermostat is behind the housing that connects the top hose to the engine block.
if you look under the exhaust manifold there is a metal pipe that runs between the oil pan and the frame. the metal hose connects to the thermostat housing under the manifold. you must remove the exhaust manifold heat shield on the top of manifold to get to the 2 8mm bolts to remove the thermostat. make sure you take note of the direction of flow from the old thermostat.
Its near firewall. Have to remove exhaust manifold,Inlet housing to waterpump, and block.
You will need to remove the exhaust manifold retaining bolts in your 1993 Chevy Astro. Remove the exhaust manifold. Remove the exhaust manifold gasket and clean the surface. Reverse the process to install the new exhaust manifold gasket.
FOLLOW THE UPPER RADIATOR HOSE TO WHERE IT MEETS THE ENGINE..GOOD LUCK ITS A PAIN TO DO!! The thermostat is located just under the exhaust manifold you will see that a metal pipe leads from the water pump to the thermostat housing is, you have to remove two screws from where this pipe meets the housing and it is a pain to do unless you remove the exhaust manifold or have small hands.
Remove the intake manifold, exhaust manifold, and then remove the head.
Are you trying to remove the exhaust manifold, the muffler,or just the line running from the manifold connection to the muffler?
i have a 1998 ford Triton f 150 how do i remove the exhaust manifold right side
loosen the bottom bolt with a 13 mm swival head socket, do not remove the bolt all the way, take out the top one and the thermostat housing will slide out and then remove the thermostat.
Under the front exhaust manifold. You have to remove the manifold to remove the starter.
its very hard to get to. if you look down the firewall on the left side. you have to remove the heat shield. i wound up dropping the exhaust and removing the exhaust manifold because its mounted under the water pump which is under the manifold.
