Starting with the 2002 Ford Explorer , the 4 door doesn't have an automatic transmission fluid level dipstick
Motorcraft MERCON-V automatic transmission fluid ( it will show the type used either on the automatic transmission dipstick handle or engraved into the dipstick )
There is no dipstick, the transmission is a completely sealed system. You have to take to dealer for service.

there is no dipstick for the transmission on an alero there is a fill spot crammed on the transmission beside the motor to check it you get under and pull out a plug on the tranny

No dipstick is fitted to this model. The filler/level plug is located on the forward face of the gearbox.
The Dipstick is located to the left of the battery (if facing car while looking under the hood) It is hidden , but white and has the letters ATF on it.
There is not a dipstick for the 2002 Cavalier. It is a closed transmission so it must be taken into a shop to be checked.
