Vehicle Speed Sensor
The Vehicle Speed Sensor or VSS is connected to the transaxle by one bolt. The speedometer Control Cable feeds into it at one end and the Speedometer Driven Gear is at the other end.
The turbine speed sensor is located on the back of the fan hub facing the engine, and your 1999 Lincoln Continental. The speed sensor can be identified by the four electrical wires leading into it.
I have a 1996 Lincoln and the way i changed the Vss is removed the front driver side tire and u should be able to find it it is hard to see it . My car has a AX4n transmission. it is little hard to get your hand in there but i was able to replace. It seems that the car shifts smother now.
Just replaced the sensor in my continental and it is no starts and will run flawlessly but won't be a reliable car
Could be the Vehicle Speed Sensor located on the rear of the transmission has failed.
The coolant temperature sensor on a 1997 Lincoln Continental is located on top of the engine, near the upper radiator hose. It constantly relays the engine's temperature to the computer.
Exhaust manifold or on catalytic conerter.

I had the same problem and found out it was the crank shaft sensor!

Which o2 sensor are you looking for? The rear located near gas tank?
